Omnichain vs Cross-chain

This dense connectivity means that any chain can communicate with any other chain directly using a predictable and stable contract interface, making data and value transfer across blockchains seamless.

The Need for Omnichain Semantics​

Existing cross-chain solutions provide sparse connectivity, meaning that not all chains are interconnected, and those that are might have different protocols or "semantics" for communication, making interoperability limited or inconsistent.

Nonuniform semantics can cause interoperability issues, as the differing rules can lead to misunderstandings or incompatibilities when chains try to communicate.

LayerZero offers a more uniform, densely connected network among all supported blockchains, aiming to overcome the limitations of existing cross-chain networks that have sparse connectivity and inconsistent communication interfaces.
